It's no secret here at The Collectv - we love Melbourne! And it's no surprise that we're back here for the start of what promises to be an epic new season of F1. The sport's biggest ever season of 21 races starts right here in Albert Park, as Australia bids farewell to summer with some typically Melburnian weather! So far we've had 2 very soggy practise sessions on this street circuit which is a park for the rest of the year.
We resume our duties working with Gearhouse Broadcast and Sky Sports, only this year there's a big difference: We're now looking after systems for 3 broadcasters. Sky production teams from the UK, Italy and Germany have taken the pioneering step of sharing resources, in order to greatly reduce the amount of equipment being shipped around the world as part of this epic season. Resources such as EVS servers, edit suites, cameras and sound facilities are shared between the 3 broadcasters, as part of the new Sky Europe.
Transmission began in the wee small hours overnight last night in the UK, and continues with a new format for qualifying tonight, with the main race itself at 5am on Sunday morning live on Sky Sports F1. Our team will be at every race this year, so check back for more news from the world tour!
